Social Enterprise Competition
Social Enterprise Business Plan Competition Guidelines:
Raising Money and Awareness for Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention
A Partnership Program between the
Carson J Spencer Foundation and Junior Achievement – Rocky Mountain, Inc.
About the Social Enterprise Business Plan Competition:
Award and Criteria:
High Schools will compete for prize money that will then be used to help implement their projects:
- First place: up to $500
- Second place: up to $250
- Third place: up to $100
During the Fall each school will create a viable business plan that will be presented to the Carson J Spencer Foundation in early January of the following year. These plans will be judged on the following criteria:
- Innovation: A compelling and innovative approach to mental health advocacy and/or suicide prevention (be bold!)
- Effectiveness: The evaluation strategy needs to measure the social impact of the enterprise (how will you know your program is having the impact that you intend)
- Sustainability: The plan needs to demonstrate that the project is sustainable (ability to continue to generate revenue and awareness long after its initial implementation)
- Profit: The potential for generating substantial net revenue

2009-2010 Award was presented to Green Mountain High School. This was a trial period for determining the process for this award. The GMHS team, with the assistance of a graphic design business, 2Kool, designed, produced and marketed "Vivacity" tee shirts. They gave a fashion show at a Carson J Spencer Foundation event in February. (See photos below). Congratulations to the Green Mountain High School Social Enterprise team!
